Efficient driving techniques help drivers reduce their fuel consumption and environmental emissions while guaranteeing their safety and that of other drivers.
That’s why, at Tayaria we have prepared some tips to help you enhance your driving skills while saving fuel and making a better use of your engine.

1.	Shifting gears
First gear provides the greatest force to the vehicle to overcome inertial resistance and get it moving. After starting off, accelerate smoothly and progressively, shifting down to second gear as soon as possible and gradually reaching the last gear without over-revving the engine, and staying in this gear for as long as possible at a constant speed. In heavy traffic, drive in the most convenient gear, while maintaining engine revs.

2.	Use of the gas pedal
The way in which the driver applies pressure to the gas pedal has a direct bearing on average fuel consumption and road safety. The “feather-footing” technique is based on applying gentle and gradual pressure to the pedal, avoiding full throttle, so that acceleration is as constant as possible, keeping it within the green zone ranges and avoiding unnecessary fuel consumption.
3.	Urban and motorway driving
Respecting speed limits and driving rationally are essential driving techniques, since speed limits are directly related to the architecture, geography and prevailing weather conditions on the road, in order to prevent unsafe situations and promote rational driving such as effective use of the engine anticipating and acting in advance and moderating changes in traffic and planning the route.

4.	Driving on slopes (uphill and downhill)
When driving uphill, the demands placed on the engine by the vehicle load generally make it necessary to raise the throttle to the upper limit of the green zone and even enter the next zone slightly in order to maintain the chosen speed, but if the length or angle of the slope requires downhill changes, these should be made in the green zone rev range and the engine revs should be maintained in the green zone for as long as possible.
When descending, it is essential to maintain the prescribed speed, and it is essential to use the gears downhill (from the last gear to the top gear).

5.	Switching off the engine
It is advisable to shut down the engine, when it is running at minimum or idle revolutions. It is not necessary to accelerate it before, as it consumes fuel unnecessarily and in supercharged engines, this practice generates premature wear in the turbocharger, as it is left spinning without lubrication. It is also advisable to turn off the engine at stops longer than two minutes, because fuel consumption and gas emission values are high when the engine is at minimum.

For further information on tyre maintenance, visit Tayaria.com or ask your local dealer.

Do you find Klang Valley a difficult and confusing area to find your way around? Many people do, even local residents. And what about driving safety? Big cities are always stressful to get around. So, here are a few tips to make sure you reach your destination safely, and in a timely manner.

Of course, these days its possible to plan your route more or less anywhere using Waze or Google Maps, but what happens if your GPS isn’t working?

It’s always a good idea to familiarise yourself with the Malaysian road signs system. The many forks in the highways can be very confusing, offering multiple ways to get to a destination, so make sure you understand the colour codes of road signs and how to interpret them.

If you do miss an exit or end up in the wrong lane, the golden rule is not to panic, it’s likely that an alternative exit will present itself a little further up the road, and you will get to your destination eventually, even if a bit late. If you get totally lost slow down, try to find a u-turn or search for a sign leading you to a place near your eventual destination. This may well end up getting you on the right track. If all else fails, find a safe place to stop and ask.

Of course, under normal circumstances, use Waze or Google Maps and plan your journey in terms of distances and check traffic conditions before you go out. Make sure your TnG card has plenty of money with you, and make sure you take a bottle of water with you in case you get stuck in a traffic jam.

In terms of safety while driving around KL, it’s always best to adopt a defensive driving strategy.
Firstly, it goes without saying that you should always drive within the speed limits. You should also be careful when changing lanes on the highway as many drivers don’t necessarily follow the rules, especially motorcyclists, who have a tendency to weave their way indiscriminately between traffic.

For obvious safety reasons, keep your distance from the car in front, but always bear in mind that if there’s a space between your car and the car in front, there is always the possibility that other drivers will cut in without signalling. Similarly, if you are at a u-turn or on a roundabout, do not assume that the car to your left or right is definitely going to go the way you think it is. Be prepared to take evasive action if necessary.

And if you’re caught in a traffic jam always assume the car in front of you is tailgating the car in front of them. Make sure you keep your distance and get ready to brake if necessary.

For advice on what to do if you have tyre issues while out and about in the Klang Valley, please contact your nearest Tayaria service outlet. Our trained specialists are always on hand to give you the best advice possible.

There is a damaged vehicle on the side of the road, and smoke is starting to come out of the engine. Witnessing an accident can be stressful, but your approach is key to reducing the time it takes to attend to victims. Here are some steps that you need to take in order to efficiently assist the victims of an accident and stay safe:

✅ If the emergency services are already there, don’t stop!

The first recommendation is very important and should be taken as a golden rule: if help has already arrived, you should be on your way, as stopping may block the way of other vehicles. In addition, by stopping you are also putting yourself in danger, since there is a risk of a rear-end collision due to rubbernecking.

✅ Protect, Alert, and Rescue

If you come across an accident on the road and the emergency services haven’t reached the location, here is what you need to do:

First of all, don’t panic. In cases like these it is vital to stay calm in order to properly assess the situation. To do so, you can follow the Protect, Alert and Rescue protocol.

1. Protect

First of all, you need to protect yourself before you help the victims involved in the accident. It is not worth it to take unnecessary risks in the course of saving someone else’s life. Remember the correct signalling, the use of reflective waistcoats and emergency triangles to inform other drivers.

2. Alert

Now is the time to report what happened using your phone or from the SOS posts on the road. Remember to use short, simple messages to explain what happened. The emergency services will ask you where you are, what happened, who was involved in the accident and if there are any injuries.

3. Rescue

It is important to note that only those who have been trained to assist victims of car accidents should do so. Therefore, the following should always be taken into account when assisting an injured person:

✅ Don’t move the victims unless it’s necessary

The victim should not be moved before checking for injuries. There is a common tendency to transport the victims by car to a medical facility. This is a big mistake and can lead to further injuries.

If the victim is unconscious but breathing, and has no other injuries, place them in the recovery position until help arrives. Keep an eye on them to ensure they continue to breathe normally, and don’t obstruct their airway.

✅ If the victim is a motorbike rider, never remove the helmet

Do not remove the helmet unless you have been trained to do so, as there is a risk of potential neck injury. A full-faced helmet should only be removed if the injured rider is not able to breathe and the helmet is preventing access to the airway. In all other circumstances the helmet should remain in place with chin strap undone. If the victim is conscious, then you can help them to undo the neck strap if that makes it easier for them to breathe.

✅ Don’t give the victims any food or beverages

Do not give the person anything to eat or drink unless a healthcare professional advisesyou to. When suffering from head, neck, thorax and abdominal injuries, it is not advisable to do so because the liquid may follow unnatural routes and cause aspiration if the injured person vomits while unconscious.

Although we hope that you never have to turn to these tips, they can be helpful and it is important to remember them in case of an emergency.

For further tips on car and tyre maintenance, visit our website or ask your local Tayaria dealer.

On previous blogs, we discussed the importance of ensuring road safety through car maintenance, anticipation, and useful tips.

However, sometimes anticipation and caution are not enough, as there are unexpected events such as flat tyres, careless drivers, or a sudden breakdown, which could pose a high risk if we are not prepared.

In the blog, we have had a look at some of the must-have accessories that all drivers should carry with them that could help them overcome any issue, emergency, or breakdown on their daily commute or long-distance journey.

1. Reflective Jacket

If you experience any issues while driving and need to step out of your vehicle in the middle of the road (make sure to always do it on the hard shoulder), you need to make yourself visible.

That is why you should keep at least two reflective jackets in your car and place them in a reachable place.

2. Warning Triangle

In addition to the reflective jacket, we recommend that drivers carry a reflective triangle which should be placed at least 50 meters away from their vehicle in the event of an accident.

The warning triangle should be approved and purchased from an establishment that meets the standards set by the Malaysian Road Transport Department.

3. First Aid Kit

In the event of an accident or serious injury, the best thing to do is to wait for the emergency services. However, small cuts or minor injuries can be treated with the help of a first aid kit.

The kit should be equipped with medical gloves, antiseptic wipes, burn relief medication or gel, antibiotic cream, assorted bandages, scissors, tweezers and, in case one or more passengers suffer from severe allergic reactions, the corresponding medication or injections that can prevent an anaphylactic shock.

4. Spare Wheel

The temporary spare wheel is essential as it allows drivers to travel safely to the nearest garage in the event of a puncture. Again, the spare wheel must meet the requirements for its use on the road.

At Tayaria, we offer a wide range of tyre brands for you to choose from and our experts can help you make the best choice for your vehicle and driving style.

We even wrote a blog on the tyres we offer looking in detail at Pirelli, Goodyear, Continental, Kumho and GT Radial.

5. Car Jack

Since it is not possible to replace a punctured tyre without the aid of a jack, it is always a good idea to bring one.

This tool is used to partially lift a car off the ground to replace the punctured tyre. Most vehicles come with a car jack included as well as the spare wheel.

Although carrying these elements may not prevent an accident from happening, they can be particularly convenient in case of an emergency and help you to get back on the road as soon as possible.

For further information on safety, road trips, maintenance, and information about our products, visit our blog posts.

Driving at night can be tricky, especially under adverse weather conditions or in heavy traffic.

In our previous blog on the Dos and Don’ts of night driving, we provided some useful tips on how to stay safe while driving at night.

As a follow-up, we are now bringing you 4 additional tips that might help you stay alert and prevent any accidents whilst driving at night:

1. Visibility is Key

One of the things that we mentioned in our previous blog for drivers to bear in mind whilst driving at night is the importance of seeing and being seen.

That’s why you should check your lights regularly, and even get your eyes checked in case you need glasses, because at night the lights become blurry, distances are misleading, and visibility in general is compromised.

Another recommendation would be to keep your windows clean, so that you have better front, side and rear vision.

2. Beware of Other Driver

It goes without saying, of course, that drinking and driving significantly increases the risk of having an accident, especially at night.

However, what we are going to recommend here is to stay alert and watch out for other drivers.

During the weekend, people tend to drink more, and some drivers don’t hesitate to sit behind the wheel after drinking.

As a result, their reaction speed is lowered and may lead to reckless behaviour, so our advice would be to keep an eye out for erratic behaviours on the road and maintain a safe distance.

Another advice would be to avoid staring at oncoming vehicles, since the glare of their beams might dazzle you.

Also, stay alert and watch out for cyclists (given how difficult it is to see them at night) and animals, since statistically, collisions with animals usually happen at dusk or at night.

If a wild animal is blocking your way or suddenly jumps in front of your car, slow down or even stop if it’s possible and avoid swerving.

3. Avoid Two-Lane Highways

The risk of being dazzled by other vehicle’s headlights or low beams is worse on two-lane roads and highways.

If possible, try to avoid them, since the oncoming cars’ headlights, along with the fact that these roads tend to have more sharp curves will significantly increase the risk of traffic crashes.

If you can, try to take an alternative route during night hours.

4. Drive Slower but at an Appropriate Speed

Given that you’re driving at night, you could be more tired and your reactions could be compromised, so we recommend driving at a safer and slower speed.

This slower speed should give you more time to react to obstacles and potential incidents, whilst also giving other drivers more time to react.

You may have heard that maintaining a safe distance is vital to avoid rear-end collisions or even chain collisions, but there are other advantages to it that you may not have considered.

In today’s blog, we will explain how to keep a safe distance with other drivers and why it is important to do so.

Advantages of Keeping a Safe Distance on the Road

1. First of all, when you maintain a safe distance, you are able to see what the other drivers ahead of you are doing and have enough time to react and anticipate any potential dangers.

2. Similarly, by keeping a certain distance with other vehicles, the other drivers are able to see and anticipate your actions.

3. Maintaining a safe distance can also help you enjoy a smooth ride and even save fuel.

4. Another reason to keep a safe distance with other drivers is to protect your windshield, since the vehicles ahead of you might eject debris and stones which could damage it.

5. Keeping a safe distance is particularly important on wet or icy roads, since the adhesion between the tyre and the road is poorer and the braking distance is extended.

6. Also, if you drive too close to the vehicle ahead of you, you’ll need to adapt to their speed, be more aware of their actions, and the risk of a rear-end collision will increase.

For that reason, we have prepared some tips that might be useful to avoid the above-mentioned problems.

a. The 3-second Rule

As we mentioned in previous blogs, the 3 to 4-second rule can prevent a rear-end collision and give you enough time to react to any sudden changes in traffic.

Most drivers keep a distance of just one second; however, not everyone has the same reflexes or is experienced enough to properly react when the driver ahead of them brakes abruptly.

That’s why you should leave a distance of at least three seconds.

If you don’t know how to calculate that distance, here is a trick that might help you: watch as the vehicle ahead passes a fixed point on the road, such as an overpass, sign, fence, or other marker, and start counting the seconds it takes to reach the same spot on the road.

If you reach the marker before you have counted the correct number of seconds, you are following too closely.

2. Be Especially Cautious on Wet or Slippery Roads

For instance, the road becomes particularly dangerous during the first 10 to 15 minutes of rain.

That’s why you should slow your speed when the road is wet or icy, since it can take up to ten times longer than usual to stop.

This means that you should further increase your following distance to be able to adapt to the weather conditions.

3. Be Wary of Tailgaters

You also need to be careful with other vehicles driving too closely behind you.

Avoid accelerating or braking and don’t try speeding up to increase the following distance.

Instead, increase your following distance from the vehicle in front and maintain a safe speed. You can also try to change lanes and let the tailgater pass.

Besides driving tips, Tayaria can help keep your car and tyres in tip-top condition.

If you need some expert advice, make use of our dealer locator tool and get in touch with your local Tayaria outlet today.
